Zero Waste Dental Care

What? Plastic toothbrushes were one of the first things that I stopped purchasing when I started my sustainable living journey.

Why? I stopped purchasing it because plastic toothbrushes cannot be recycled as they get stuck in the recycling machines/tools, and plastic itself is not fully biodegradable so every plastic toothbrush ever created is still somewhere (usually dumped in oceans) and it will not go anywhere, it will probably outlive you/your great grandchildren.

What to do?

Changing the type of toothbrush is one of the easiest solutions in order to live a better, cleaner and a greener life. Afterall, you need a handle and bristles for the job! Instead of a plastic toothbrush switch to a biodegradable toothbrush from Prakrutii. Their toothbrushes are made from bamboo which is the hero of regenerative materials because it can decompose within 6 months.

When to discard and how?

Of course the bamboo toothbrush like any other material object will wear out and you know it when it starts to get a little gnarly (dictionary meaning- a rough, knotty protuberance, especially on a tree).

If you’re ready to discard your bamboo toothbrush you can simply throw it in the trash can without having to think about it harming the environment (because it won’t! yay!).

But if you’re really into reusing and recycling just like me then checkout the RIY (recycle it yourself) page.

Happy Brushing!
